Winter Theme Day - Nelson 7-8s and Dawn Y7 West Coast
It’s a “Winter Theme” day. We created snazzy snowflakes and applied mathematical language e.g. symmetry, axes of symmetry and rotational symmetry. The challenge was then to create a snowflake with eight axes of symmetry which was achieved. Could we create a snowflake with only three or five axes of symmetry? It was explained of why we couldn’t. A student created a snowflake with 16 axes and rotation of symmetry!
After our snowflakes, we explored acrylic and watercolour paints to create a winter landscape. We learned about foreground and background positioning and using only cool colours along with black and white to give the impression of winter.
It was fabulous to have Dawn and Mrs Glue from the West Coast join us. Enjoy our creations!
