With the end of term coming up soon, it is timely to outline the OSG’s position regarding travel, and extended periods away from school during Term time.

The Education and Training Act of 2020 stipulates that any child under the age of 17-years-old must attend school every day, unless there is a period of illness.

The Ministry of Education monitors attendance closely, and considers that attendance at school is important because:

• it enables the maintenance of good habits for learning
• learning to read, write and do mathematics takes a lot of practice and is easier to master if your child goes to school regularly
• it allows for the introduction of new learning for your child/ren
• school offers your child/ren regular, dedicated help to master the many skills they need
• it teaches your child life skills like commitment, being reliable, having a good work ethic and sticking with things when they get hard.

For these reasons, we encourage you to consider the importance of attendance at school during term time. Holidays should be scheduled during the Term breaks. These dates are on the school calendar for your reference.
