Mobile Phone and technology ban

Hello Senior school students and parents

The Upper South CA team are committed to uphold the One School Vison and Values, and also the specific One School policy regarding phones and wearable IT equipment at school. We need your full support to adhere to this and prevent the following items coming to school. :

  • Student Phones
  • Smartwatches
  • Fitness Trackers

This includes all student mobile phones, wearable technology such as Smartwatches, fitness trackers (including Fitbit, Garmin, Tom-tom, Samsung and other brands). This means any device that connects to a network, syncs to the internet, tracks movement, or is not school-owned or supplied.

We would like to remind all that we are fully supporting the school staff in upholding the One School phone and wearable tech policy.

In the event of these items being found at school, the policy states:

12.5. Where no formal agreement is in place between parents/guardians, students and the School, prohibited ICT equipment will be confiscated with the following effect:

  1. 1st offence: Item confiscated for that day. Returned to parent/guardian at the end of the day or when they are next available to come into School.
  2. 2nd offence: Item confiscated, and CA works through Local Ambassador* to return the item to the parent/guardian at the end of the School week.
  3. 3rd offence: Item confiscated, and CA works through Local Ambassador* to return the item to the parent/guardian at the end of the term.

*Respected community elder who supports the CA.

We would like to encourage the parents to ensure that their children have left these at home before they leave for school.

If there is a specific reason why a student needs to bring a phone to school, the policy states that prior written approval is required from the regional team leader. This can be done by the parents contacting the CP (Campus Principal) and one of the CA team. The approval is on a case by case basis, and the phone will still need to be handed into the OA office on arriving.

The Student ICT Policy and two associated documents can be downloaded from the following links:
