West Coast Year 3-6 Art Exhibition
As part of Assignment, the West Coast Year 3-6 students have been creating artworks for the art competition.
One of the artworks was “Out of the frame” art; it must be a New Zealand native animal. One part of the animal must be out of the frame, such as the tail or the wings. We designed a koru border to go around it.
The next one is the bird art. We all copied the instructions and diagrams of how to draw it, then we started. The main part of the drawing is doing the body: you use shapes to help you. For example, the tail would be a rectangle, the head would be a circle. After we drew our bird, we coloured it in with pastels.
Lastly, the printmaking. First, we created a Māori design after researching Māori koru and kowhaiwhai patterns and Māori artists. We made a cardboard block, then we got coloured ink, rolled it onto the cardboard block and transferred the design onto paper. We made more designs and tried different coloured ink and paper. We chose four different prints to display.
