WEST COAST CAMPUS
WEST COAST MARKET DAY
Market days are fun initiative. While they require preparation, organisation and energy, it also promotes learning, teamwork and developing a good business sense.
All learners were onboard with their great line up of stalls from food, beverages, raffles and mini golf. At the end of day, you were likely to grab a few bargains at Woodwork, World of sense, Abeille and Sensational Seed stalls. Greymouth and Westport certainly demonstrated enthusiasm and creative skills. All that attended the West Coast Market Day on Tuesday17th September enjoyed what was on offer.
Lines of people piled into the school. Fretting and stressing we served, like there was no end to the line. With the 6 awesome stalls, designed to attract customers they sold out fast. Tansi Hill, impressed all her buyers with her “Jar Sensations" which she sold, cookies ingredients in a jar. Tauri and Rosa scenting the West Coast Learning Centre, in which they sold candles, bath bombs, diffusers, and more! Reef Deck, whose name was "Conglomerations" (the names says it all) sold a variety of items from hand sanitisers, to pussy willow and computer cleaning kits. Truan Powell, selling handmade chopping boards. Jayne with her beeswax candles, the juniors with their plants and seeds, Barclay and Rome, attracting buyers from all around the globe who sold, handmade & hand cut wooden letters and coat hooks. The last stall, was named "For the love of coffee" had donuts with syringes, coffees and hot chocolates - this was very popular. While the kids piled in picking out their choice of a lucky dip. At the end of the day everyone had smiles on their faces, a hole in their wallets, and their arms full of goodies. – Capri Filleul.
YEAR 3-6 2019-2020 "RAINBOW" GARDEN
The building of Greymouth Year 3-6 2019-2020 ‘Rainbow’ garden has begun!
Seeds from last year’s garden were estimated, counted, packaged in handmade containers, advertised and, sold at the recent West Coast Market Day. The Sensational Seed Stall included a Guess the Number Sentence competition where people paid $1 to guess the sum of the real beans and jellybeans. All the hard work in maths has paid off for Orla Hill who had the closest complete estimation!
This event was followed by The Great Annual Poop Collection where students were able to collect all sorts of manure; sheep, alpaca, goat, cow and chicken.
The next step is to shovel it on, dig it all in and really build up the soil.
Then, all that remains is to find out…just how we can get all the colours of the rainbow!
