YEAR 7 -8 DEBATING COMPETITION

DEBATING_PIC.jpg

Congratulations to Lara Beatson, Bridgette Guy and Tara Woodman for placing Runner Up in the Year 7/8 Debating Competition.

Their journey involved debating against Hawkes Bay, Auckland and South in the Pools round.  They continued to win the semi-finals against Northland. For the final, we came up against Auckland again and it was a nail biter! There was only 9 points difference! So close!

Well done Lara, Bridgette and Tara for all your debating skills and for your fantastic collaboration.  We are proud of you!

NELSON BOOK FAIR

During week 5 the Nelson Junior School held a Book Fair. Children wrote wish lists and parents and  grandparents came in to view, purchase and donate books. A huge number of books have been donated for our library, and many, many books were sold: $3,890 worth in total. We receive 30% of the total, which means we will have $1,166 to spend on new books for our library. Thank you to all those who donated books for the library. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and greatly appreciate your kind donations. Thank you also to all those who came and bought so many books.

On Friday everyone dressed up as a book character. We had a parade followed by prizes for the best costumes. In Year 7-8 first prize went to Lara Beatson as the Queen of Hearts and second place went to Dakari Thomas as Captain Haddock. In Year 4/5/6 first prize went to Ryker Woodman as Willie Wonka while Sequoia Wood took second place as the White Queen from the Narnia series. In the Year 3-4 class Alana Petrie took first prize as Bindi while Connor Thomas came second as Obelix. Winners of the colouring competition were Pearl Wood and Dakari Thomas. Well done to everyone for making such a great effort with costumes. Everyone had their photograph taken in the specially constructed photo booth, and everyone enjoyed a lovely shared morning tea.

The library and courtyard were beautifully decorated, which created a real sense of occasion. The whole effect was absolutely stunning. Thank you to all the parents who contributed to make the Book Fair such a great success.
