Building the Strongest Bridge Challenge - Blenheim Year 7/8 Class
Blenheim Year 7 and 8 students were given a challenge to make the strongest bridge.
It is funny how different people approach the same challenge in different ways!
Students were given a list of materials: string, sellotape, blu-tack, straws and paper clips to create their bridges.
Students worked well with their buddy to research different parts and types of bridges and then started designing.

Zatori and Bella’s bridge was successful in holding a mug containing 50 marbles, a 2kg weight and a 4kg weight. Their bridge was sturdy and took on the different weights without a hitch.

Jett and Jovan’s bridge was also successful. It was able to hold a cup of 50 marbles, a 2kg weight and 4kg weight, although it strained a little with the 4kg weight but did not collapse.

Students thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and want to upskill their designs by looking at what worked well and where they could go better next time.
