It was a week late, but well worth the wait as the Nelson Year 3-6 students enjoyed a glorious day of sunshine for their Crossing the Land excursion on Thursday, 17^th February.

We walked up Botanical Hill in Nelson to the Centre of New Zealand. At the top everyone enjoyed the fantastic views and tried to identify landmarks they recognised.

On the way up, everyone kept their eyes open for items for the scavenger hunt.  Once down the hill, the students walked to Queen’s Gardens for lunch, and a walk around the gardens. It was a good day for nature spotting – monarch butterflies, tui, eels, ducks, geese and ants were among the wildlife we encountered, and there were lots of opportunities to identify the many trees we saw along the way.

After lunch, it was time to enjoy some play at the Tahunanui playground before heading back to school.
