A reminder that there is a Year 9-13 teacher only day on Monday. 

There will be no Zoom classes however students are expected to work from home on assignments and checkpoints.

On Wednesday 11th May, the Blenheim Year 3-9 students visited the Taylor Pass Honey factory. 

Rex Butt explained the life cycle of bees and the different roles bees have within the hive as well as the honey making process. 

Rex demonstrated the different parts of the hive and how beekeepers can allow and restrict bee access to the hive to extract honey. 

The students were able to handle trays from a hive containing wax and trace elements of honey, they tried on bee keeping suits and were treated to a honey tasting before having a tour of the factory.  Here, Rex showed them the warming, spinning and mixing process as well the drums the honey is stored in before bottling.

After that, they went to a storage facility where they store all the honey and hives during the winter months. 

Everyone enjoyed the trip!

For the workplace excursion this week, the Year 9/10 Nelson students visited the Nelson Classic Car Museum and the Nelson Skate Club.
