Dear Parents and Students
It is my distinct pleasure to formally welcome you all back to OneSchool Global, Nelson. Trusting you all have enjoyed a magnificent summer holiday and are ready for a successful and enjoyable 2024.
This year promises to be a truly fantastic and exciting year. Parents, Staff and Students have already spent many hours preparing for the new academic year, and whilst there are still some things to come and do, learning, exploring and discovery is already well under way.
I have had the pleasure of meeting a few parents in the last couple of days, I look forward to meeting hopefully all of you over the coming weeks. Till then, perhaps a brief overview of my background.
My name is Wayne English, and I have been Campus Principal of Wellington since January 2019. I have been asked to work alongside the Nelson Campus team for Term one of this year whilst OSG recruits a permanent Campus Principal. To this end, I will be on campus for 2-3 days a week, with Mrs Michelle Jacobs being point contact when I am in Wellington.
I have been in teaching and education for more than 30 years and my passion for education remains as strong as ever. My wife, Marina, and I arrived in New Zealand around six years ago, originally hailing from South Africa. Prior to our arrival in NZ, we spent 10 years in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and Kazakhstan, where we were both worked as principals and leadership coaches and advisors. Prior to this, we were both principals of schools in Cape Town, South Africa.
I really look forward to engaging with you over the coming weeks and supporting your sons and daughters in their educational journey and wish each of you a fruitful and successful year ahead.
New Year 3s
Nelson Campus would like to extend a special word of welcome to our brand new Yr 3s to our campus. They are: Demi Field, Macie Smith, Wynslo Ivory and Amy Woodman.

Uniform & Punctuality
Your sons and daughters will hear and see much about our Learning to Learn Framework, Personas and Positive Culture this year, and I thank you for the support that you will bring to this from within the home.
A key part of this is setting the tone, and as such I request that all students arrive at school properly dressed and prepared each day. This means:
- Full and correct uniform (including the new OSG sunhat for ALL students);
- necessary equipment;
- arriving punctually; and
- possessing a positive attitude.
Punctuality is an important starting point. In fact, being on time for school and for class is not about being late, it is more about respecting one’s own commitments. Becoming more self-directed towards this is, of course, an integral part of our objective!
Please be reminded that all students are expected to be on campus between 08:30 and 08:40 each day.
Whanau classes commence at 08:40
End of school day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday is at 15:00
End of school day on Wednesdays is 14:10
Please ensure that your child/ren has/have the correct school uniform, and that s/he wears the full and correct uniform to and from school each day.
All students are required to wear the new OSG uniform sunhat (baseball cap-style hats are not acceptable) when outdoors during Term 1 and Term 4.
All parents are requested to ensure that each item of uniform is labelled with your child’s/ren’s full name.
ZOOM Lessons & Headphone Requirements
This may be your child’s first year on Zoom. While this may be daunting for some, we want to ensure that the transition from face-to-face classes to Zoom is as seamless as possible.
If the teacher is from an offsite campus, your child will be joining different Zoom classes several times a week for that subject.
To ensure your child has the best learning experience via Zoom, it is a requirement that all students own a quality headset to participate in these classes. There are many options available on the market and we recommend students make their own choice of headset which will also help them take ownership for the care of their headset.
We highly recommend headsets with the following specifications to get the best audio quality and learning experience:
- Must have a microphone
- Over-the-ear or earbuds style
- Connects via USB (preferred) or a single 3.5mm stereo input - Bluetooth is NOT recommended
- No distracting bright lights or themed models (should be simple headsets)
Below are our recommendations of suitable headphones from our IT team, with the price of the item if purchased from UBT:
- Logitech H340 USB Headset
- Jabra Enterprise Evolve 20 professional USB (Wired) Stereo Headset UC 4999-829-409
- Logitech H390 USB Pure Digital Headset
Due to the important part these items play in your students learning, we recommend careful consideration, and a quality investment is made, and if your student does not yet own one of these, it is important a set is purchased to ensure the student can attend their classes.
Parents are responsible for ensuring students have these purchased for the school year.
Please feel free to email our IT team for any questions, or further headset recommendations: it.support@nz.oneschoolglobal.com.
We look forward to engaging with you over the coming year and wish each of you a fruitful and successful year ahead. Please feel free to contact me directly or via the office, should you wish to discuss anything with me.
With kindest regards and best wishes
