The Year 13s did a morning tea on Friday 16th February for the Year 3 – 13s including the teachers. This morning tea was to start the year off on a positive note and to also fundraise for some new sports gear. We raised $350.80 and with this money we will be buying two new basketballs and a new field soccer ball. Thanks for your support.

MAP Testing
Next week we will be holding MAP testing on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the Year 9-13 students, during periods 3-4. Full attendance is therefore especially important on these days. These results will determine what we learn for the rest of the year, so please try your best and improve your scores! The results will also be used to calculate our campus's ranking amongst all other campuses worldwide. Everyone please do their best to show the rest of the campuses who's boss!

EVENT SUPPORT
As with previous years we cannot run this event practically, nor safely without the wonderful support of many volunteer helpers. This year we hope to boast the largest number of volunteers signed up. Across the day we need help with collecting and maintaining the equipment, recording results, lining up students, moving students between activities – something for everyone to help with. Check your calendar and click the link HERE to sign up.
Volunteering will give you access inside the track fencing to get the best view of the children performing, as well as help earn your families House some well needed house points. If you are extended family check with your current students what House they are affiliated to, most families are grouped together.
SPECTATORS
If you are unable to commit to help with an event this year we welcome you to come and watch for the parts of the day you're available. The students are keen to ensure plenty of spectators come down to cheer everybody on and contribute to a great atmosphere. We encourage all spectators to dress in their families’ House colour to make Saxton a sea of Red, Yellow and Green.
SAFETY
Please do remember only competitors, staff and event volunteers are able to come INSIDE the track fence. Any spectators, and younger children must stay outside the track fencing. This is a requirement of our safety operating procedure for the day and ensures no disruption to the competitors during their events
STUDENT PREPARATION
Student are working on their skills and technique for Athletics in their PE Lessons, you can support them in doing extra training at home – there are resources on the PE Canvas page.
On the day of the event ALL students are expected to be present, be correctly dressed in their coloured House shirt with their OSG PE kit (no other sports wear is allowed, please ensure your child/children have the correct gear, that fits well for this event). OSG hats are compulsory. No mobile phones or smart watches are permitted for students.
Keeping hydrated and well fuelled on the day is vital, however, this should NOT include any energy drinks. Please do not provide these for them, a water bottle is all they need and can be refilled at the track.

Year 3 – 6 Trip to Nelson Provincial Museum
The Year 3 – 6 children spent a fascinating morning at the Nelson Provincial Museum last Thursday, 8th February. We learned all about the life of a little-known Nelsonian, Appo Hocton, who left his family in China in 1828. Appo was just nine years old when he began his working life on board the ship, Thomas Harrison.
Appo settled in Nelson, and later on, in Dovedale, and he made a great success of his life. His hard work, enterprise, and his determination to make a success of his life were an inspiration to us.
On the way to the museum, we stopped at the Nelson Settlers Monument on Rocks Road. We looked at the names of the settlers who came to Nelson in the early 1800s and found a few familiar family names.
In the week since our trip, we have talked a lot about what we learned. We have pulled apart our Big Question: How might the stories of our past be reflected in Aotearoa New Zealand today? and thought of lots of smaller, related questions, which will shape the direction of our Inquiry Assignment for the rest of this term.
On Tuesday morning the Year 13s visited the Primary School to see the new garden and outdoor areas. We were guided around by the Primary students and even got to see the worm farm. Finally, everyone played a huge game of bob tag, where we discovered we weren't as fast as we used to be. Thanks for a great game, Juniors!
This year we are giving out awards to those who best demonstrate the Personas and Pillars. As you know, the Personas are the ideals of what a OneSchool student, teacher, parent, CP or CA should strive to be. The Pillars are the Five from Strive, which we will be focused on getting rid of this year. These are: swearing, littering, incorrect uniform, over-emailing, and bullying. Focusing on the Personas and Pillars will help make our school a better place to come to every day, which is why we are giving recognition to those who fulfill the criteria.
Congratulations to those who received awards this week and see you at the next assembly!
The next pillar is littering, so make sure you pick up your rubbish and keep this school clean.
The next Persona for the students is “A Team Player”, for the staff their persona is “is OSG first”.
Congratulations to the following who received a certificate for correct uniform:

Congratulations to those who received a certificate for Personas and a special mention to Mr Donjeany for receiving a certificate for Thriving on Feedback.
