Hi All
Just wanted to update you on what has been happening and the process from here and to say thanks for all the well wishes.
Rachael is being looked after very well by her department at Nayland school, and the medical team here with me.
As you already know, on Saturday 22 May, I came down with strong fever, with no improvement by the following Monday morning when my local doctor rushed me to Nelson hospital.
Most of Monday I was in the emergency department with very high fevers, thumping headaches and blurred vision. My blood pressure dropped excessively low which was a worry. Tuesday saw me moved to intensive care.
Finally on Wednesday they got a breakthrough from the lumbar puncher that showed bacterial meningitis (pneumococcal meningitis), which thankfully is not contagious.
They started full on treatment, my heart also started to improve and after struggling to walk around the ICU, saw it go back to normal fibrillation, which was a nice surprise to everyone.
My days now look a little like this:
- 2am – 5am bloods and first round of antibiotics
- Hopefully get some sort of shut eye until 7am when more bloods and breakfast.
- 2nd antibiotic given, but this time over about an hour.
Then this basically repeats itself at 10am and 6pm. However, lunch at 12pm and dinner at 5pm.
I don’t really get into any type of deep sleep, I nap and sleep when I can.
Biggest side affects are all my joints ache and I have swelled up with my legs, knees and ankles all becoming one large tree trunk.
I can only focus on something for about five minutes before getting a thumping headache and my vision starts to go (hence Rachael typing most of this up).
I know everyone is thinking of me, don’t worry about sending well wishes, as I can’t read them with my headaches and eyesight.
The best thing you can do for me, is to do the very best you can and make me proud of the learning, gains and achievement you can personally achieve.
Mr. Rogers
*Note from CA Team - absolutely no visitors to the hospital please*
Congratulations to the following Upper South students on their Conquer Awards.
Painting the Walls with Inspiration - Blenheim Campus
Room One at Blenheim Campus has been looking at the vibrant and growing arts scene in Christchurch.
Exploration of the inner city reveals colourful artworks from a range of inspiring artists. We have created our own wall art with inspirational quotes.

Thank you to the talented Rilla Beatson, who provided an outstanding morning tea for the National Leadership Team when they visited Blenheim campus on 25 May.
We enjoyed having our visitors for the morning and everyone was happy there was some leftovers to sample!

Brunch for Dad's Day - Blenheim Campus
On Monday 24 May Blenheim dads came to campus and were treated to a delicious burger lunch cooked by the seniors.
They also played Kahoot with the juniors and took time to explore the learning centre.
Thank you to all who made the effort to attend.

Frosted Donuts - Blenheim Campus
As part of Year 12 student Rilla Beatson's Business Studies course, Rilla made approximately 170 donuts for students, staff and the community this week.
On Wednesday Blenheim students enjoyed having some of these delicious donuts for a morning tea treat.

Shantytown Visit - West Coast and Blenheim Campuses
The Year 3-6 students from the West Coast and Blenheim Campuses recently spent the day at Shantytown in Greymouth, as a provocation for their upcoming assignment about tourism.
Students, parents, grandparents, and teachers alike had a wonderful day! Here are some photos from the trip and recounts from a few of the students.

Brunch for Blokes Day - Nelson Campus
On Monday 24 May we had an awesome Brunch for Blokes day.
We have put together a quick video - everyone enjoyed this day and the food was insane!
Nelson Year 7 and 8s have presented their Inquiries.
The big question was: How might something small make a big impact?
Everyone enjoyed the Inquiry process and presented informative, interesting Inquiries.
We have amazing creativity in our room! Thank you to those who joined us. It was great to show you our hard work!

Brunch for Dad's Day - West Coast
On Monday 24 May, we had Brunch for Dad’s Day in Greymouth. We cooked up a feast of bacon and egg muffins along with coffees.
This went well with the majority of dads coming out to enjoy the food and the beautiful day. It was a great chance for them all to catch up and have a small walk around the school to see what has been happening.
We held the same day for the dads on Thursday 27 May in Westport, to ensure that all dads were included and could enjoy the delicious brunch that we had to offer.
The views from the Greymouth OneSchool campus are impressive to say the least.
These photos were captured by our Learning Leader, Mr Sutton, one morning when the barber wind was blowing through the valley where the school is located.
They were taken from the learning centre deck, meaning that we get to enjoy this view every day.
Take a moment to show your appreciation to a staff member, student, parent or volunteer who has made a positive impact on you in the past weeks!
