The Amazing Race - Upper South Year 7-12
Last Thursday Year 7-12 Upper South sites came together at Rabbit Island for The Amazing Race!
The Rabbit Island excursion was a challenging day that allowed many students to have a chance at leading groups and show true team spirit.
This day also tested the minds of students with mental and physical challenges that had to be completed throughout the race.
They spilt into house groups of around five students and completed a series of challenges.
The challenges included:
- eating onion, brussel sprouts or dry weetbix
- piggy backs
- ring throwing
- balancing ice cream containers on teammates heads, while filling it with teaspoons of sand
- singing an unknown song with no music
To finish off the day we played a game of cricket until the results were in and ready to be presented.
Well done to Troopers for winning the best shelter and congratulations to Warriors for winning overall.

The Year 13s were lucky enough to go on their own school excursion down to the Abel Tasman Bays.
They travelled by water taxi to Torrent Bay, walking 12kms whilst exploring Māori history throughout the native bush, and relaxing with a perfect lunch on the golden sand.
It was a marvelous day, enjoyed by all!
Below are some recent NCEA results from Blenheim campus.
Well done to the Year 10 students for completing their first NCEA internals worth three credits, which they can carry forward to next year!
The Year 3-6 Blenheim students have enjoyed taking part in New Zealand Maths Week.
Each day they have worked collaboratively to answer questions on an online game called 'Maths Millionaire'.
They earn dollars for each question they answer correctly.
The student with the most dollars at the end of the week will be our Maths Millionaire!

Creative Writing - Remy Beatson, Blenheim Campus
For creative writing in room one, the juniors were asked:
"If your toys were to come alive while you were asleep, what sort of things would they get up to?".
Below is an example of some creative writing.
The Army Commotion
It was one silent night when a bang of magic came through the window. My army men started to jump and jostle around. I awoke and heard nothing but the gentle breeze of the heater, so I went back to sleep.
As soon as my head it the pillow I went back to sleep. The army men marched out the door. They marched down the stairs. The marched outside and started fighting.
Bang! Boom! Rat-a-tat-tat. One army man escaped the battle and rushed to tell the Airforce.
General Fly By said he could join the battle and sent for the police. But when the robbers heard they joined in too. There was a huge commotion, but the sun started to rise, so they quickly rushed to their places in my bedroom and became silent statues again.

Trish the Fish Poem - Andre Clifford Blenheim Campus
Andre Clifford from Blenheim Campus had to write either a poem or a short story about his chosen pond creature.
Here is his creative poem called 'Trish the Fish' which is dedicated to Mrs Gilbert.
Blenheim Campus Last Day of Term Two
On the last day of Term two Blenheim students enjoyed a fun day that involved many different activities!
The day started with the senior school running into the school shop for 10 minutes to purchase their desired products to cook up a storm in the MasterChef competition.
They then had 90 minutes to cook and present their plates to the awaiting judges, Mr de Beer, Mrs Fisher and Mrs Johnson.
The final scores came out as Troopers 1st, Warriors 2nd and Raiders close behind in 3rd.
At the same time the juniors began their cupcake decorating.
The juniors showed amazing creativity when decorating and it was a very difficult task for the leadership team when deciding the winners.
The decisions were eventually made with Eva Clifford coming 1st, followed by Cruden Clifford 2nd and 3rd was a tie between Theo Faulkner and Stein Clifford.
A special shout out to Rachel Faulkner for helping out the juniors while the seniors ran off to complete the MasterChef competition!
After morning tea, the whole school split into house teams and completed a scavenger hunt that took them right around the school and made the teams work together to answer the riddles to find the next clue spot.
This was a timed race for the house teams and the winner was Warriors!
All the students then enjoyed the delicious one-meter-long pizzas with chips for lunch followed by an afternoon of sports!
Overall, the day ran smoothly and was a good end to the term!

1st Place - Troopers
2nd Place - Warriors
3rd Place - Raiders
Goodbye Mrs Fisher - Blenheim Campus
It was a sad end to the first week of term when students and staff at Blenheim campus said goodbye to one of their favourite teachers and colleagues, Mrs Fisher.
Mrs Fisher was overwhelmed by the generosity Blenheim campus showed her on her last day.
She was treated to a delicious morning tea, received art made by students as well as many cards and gifts from families.
Mrs Fisher has moved to Rangiora to be closer to family and we are all hoping she will become a familiar face at Rangiora campus!

OneSchool Gold and Silver Awards - Nelson Campus
Congratulations to the following Nelson students who have received their OneSchool gold and silver awards.
Taz Talent Day - Nelson Campus
The Taz Talent Day on the last day of Term two was a day full of energy!
The day started off with debating between the house teams and Troopers came out on top!
Students then went into a rotation of MasterChef, renovating and bridge building.
Overall the winners of the day were both Troopers and Raiders.
Awesome day guys!
Following are some recent NCEA results from West Coast campus.
Year 7 and 8 Tech - West Coast
The Year 7 and 8s on the West Coast have finished making their aprons and have been lucky enough to have had the help from parents and grandparents Anne-Marie French, Tess Filleul, Cass French and Jacqui Powell.
The students have enjoyed sewing this term and their finished products look fantastic!
Next term they are moving on to woodwork and they are looking forward to that.
Last Day of Term Two - West Coast
On the last day of Term two, Year 7-13 West Coast students kicked of a large MasterChef competition between the three house teams.
Each house team had to cook three courses for 20 people.
The teams were given one ingredient that had to be incorporated in each of the courses and they had a set time of when the food should be delivered.
The day went well with all guests loving the food that was handed out and Warriors came out on top, with the judges rating all three of their dishes the highest.
The juniors also had a very successful day. They were split into small groups where they had to decorate cupcakes relating to a theme that they were given - sea and garden.
They then finished off the day with a wearable arts competition. They had to create a costume relating to the same cupcake theme and complete a fashion show in front of the MasterChef guests. The guests rated each of the outfits out of ten.

A reminder that the school will be closed on Friday 10th and Monday 13th September for our mid-term break.
Take a moment to show your appreciation to a staff member, student, parent or volunteer who has made a positive impact on you in the past week/s.
