For the first few weeks of Term 1 we have been learning about cells and how they grow and operate. To study cells in a practical sense we have decided to do a garden so we can see what the plants do over time. To make our investigation even more interesting we are going to treat different sides of our gardens differently and see how it affects their growth rate and production. For example, we will give one side of the garden two litres of water per day but then given the other side four litres a day. Overall, we think it’s a great way to learn about how cells grow and develop, and we look forward to seeing what our gardens yield.
Welcome to the end of week 7, wow how time flies.
Today in Part 3 of Student Directed Learning, I am focusing on our digital tool of Canvas and how Canvas links with the Assignment, Lesson and The Study. I spoke to a few senior students over the last two weeks to help me out with producing a video. In the end we all decided we could not do any better than what was produced by the National team and was linked within the last National Newsletter. The video link is below.
Furthering on from the information in the last newsletter, here is what most of the students will be waiting for - Track distances and descriptions!
We have decided to simplify this year while still ensuring that NCEA expectations are still met for those students participating in either 1.3/2.4 or 3.4 in Distance Running. Our course is classified as difficult, due to it being off road and over varying terrain at different points throughout the course, it is also requires a fair amount of agility begin a dual use mountain biking track!
We look forward to all runners and marshalls being onsite before 9:30 so that the marshalls can be briefed and in position, and the runners can be briefed and starting the first junior races by 10am. This is crucial to the smooth running of the day.
If you would like to help with the day please let me know (pip.hateley@nz.oneschoolglobal.com) before Monday 24th June and I can allocate you a job.
More information will follow closer to the day regarding sports activities for the afternoon.
We look forward to seeing you in Westport on the 5th July!!!
With the change of weather and sickness going around, we would like to remind parents and students that if a student is unwell and away when there is an internal assessment on then you will need a Doctors Certificate.
As part of Health & Safety each Campus has a Traffic Management Plan. These are currently getting reviewed but we would like to remind everyone of a few things that have come up:
- Please reverse into all designated parks on school grounds.
- The pick up/drop off area is for that only - please do not park there for extended periods of time.
- Speed is kept at 10kmph.
- Before and after school is a busy time, always expect the unexpected.
- Don't rush, as it's is only a few seconds you are saving.
- Have consideration for others.
YEAR 7 - 8 ANZAC ART
Last term we researched all about ANZAC. The class was given the task to demonstrate ANZAC through Art. They explored different types of art that they hadn’t used before. Take a look at what students have inquired to learn to do. There is wire sculpturing, nail & string art, sketching and quilling.
