What is MAP testing and how does it work.
MAP is a computer adaptive test which means every students gets a unique set of
questions based on how they answer each individual question. If answered correctly the questions get harder, if answered incorrectly they get easier. This provides teachers with information that sits alongside other information used by teachers to get a very clear picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn next.
What does MAP testing measure?
MAP measures achievement and growth across reading, maths and language usage. Skills learnt in these three areas are key to all subjects across our curriculum and support students to be life-ready and effective self-directed learners.
What can students do to study for MAP testing?
Students cannot study for these tests – these are about how students take what they know & understand and then apply this to new and different ways of questioning.
How can Parents help with MAP testing?
Parents you can sit down with your child and revisit the last profile report. Look at the progress made, learning goals set and how these have been achieved throughout the year.
Encourage students to read the questions carefully and ask themselves; what is this question asking me? what do I know about what they are asking me…or recognise in the words used in this question? how can I best use this to work out my answer?
Engagement in the test is also measured. This shows how much effort each student put into the test. It is vital that every student tries their hardest. This is the best conversation you can have with you child.
- This link provides parents with resources that include a short video, answers to questions parents often ask and a PDF that provides a family guide to MAP. This link will also be in the L2L bulletin of week 2 or 3 this term.
Exam leave begins on Tuesday 5th November.
Upper South Year 13 Agribusiness Trip
On the 25th September a group of Upper South year 13 Agribusiness students went out to the Marlborough Sounds to look at the NZ King Salmon farm. We had beautiful weather and the students really enjoyed getting a “hands-on” experience at the Salmon farm. Thank you to all of the parents who attended this trip, a great time was had by all - Mrs Anna Muir

On Wednesday 25th September we presented a cheque for $1300 to the Nelson/Marlborough Rescue Helicopter. A date for presentation to the West Coast Rescue is yet to be confirmed.
WE WANT TO SAY ANOTHER MASSIVE THANK YOU TO ALL THE SPONSORS FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!!
SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL
After a big assignment around earthquakes and particularly the Alpine Fault, Year 3-6 Greymouth students made their own board game. It is designed to help players understand what to do to keep safe in an earthquake and, what they might need in order to be sure they are prepared for The Big One.
Anyone visiting Greymouth is welcome to come and play!
OUTSIDE FUN
The Year 4-6 students are really enjoying their newly painted Hopscotch and Four Square which was completed over the holiday break.

TESSELLATIONS
The Year 3-4 students have been learning to make tessellations. These are the tiles we made.

First, we got some squares of card and drew different lines with vivid on two sides.
We cut along the lines, then we slid the pieces to the other side and sellotaped them on.
We drew around our shapes on A3 paper.

We needed to make sure we didn't move the tiles when we were tracing round them, or flip them over, or turn them around.
We also needed to make sure there were no gaps between the tiles. We couldn't overlap them either.
Finally, we added some features to make animals or faces.

There a still a selection of items left over from the Colour Run. We would really like to see these back with their owners. If you recognise anything please contact blenheim.campus@nz.oneschoolglobal.com and we will organise to get this back to you.
