Three Way Conferences Year 3-10
Next week we are holding 3 Way Conferences to give parents and students an opportunity to meet with teachers to share MAP Growth Reports. This is a time to discuss progress and achievement shown in this latest MAP testing round, and reflect on learning goals as we move forward into 2020.
These 3 Way Conferences (3WC) will take place on Wednesday 27th November from 2:30pm to 7:00pm.
Parents will have the opportunity of a 10 minute interview with their child’s form teacher/homeroom teacher/whanau teacher. Zoom meeting availability will be set up if required for students and parents to connect with their off site teachers or to assist with parent attendance.
Please click on the gold button above to make your booking, or go to www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and enter event code 64av6.
Bookings will close at the end of day, Monday 25th November.
If you are unable to make an online booking, please contact your campus Office Administrator, who will be able to make the online booking for you.
In three-way conferencing all three parties - student, parents and the teacher - sit together and talk about the student’s learning. Three Way Learning Conferences are a conversation between the student, their parents and their teacher. The student has an opportunity to share with their parents, with the support of their teacher, their growth as a learner. All three parties - student, parents and the teacher - sit together and talk about the student’s learning by looking at and discussing a range of the student’s work samples. There is also opportunity for the parents and teacher to spend some 1:1 time without the student to discuss other matters
This new MAP Growth Report, The Family Report, gives us further opportunity to share your child’s MAP Growth results. This new report provides a two-page summary which focuses on providing a snapshot of your child’s growth and achievement data and will be sent to you three times a year.
This year teachers will use this and the online Student Profile report at the three-way conferences being held on 27th November. The focus for these conferences will be on sharing your student’s achievement and growth alongside reflecting on their learning goals as we look toward 2020.
We trust that this new Family Report will make it easier to see not only how your child is achieving but also how they are growing. All students can grow, no matter where they are at academically.

YEAR 4 - 6 SCIENCE
Mrs Muir was very lucky to have the year 4-6’s for a crash course in science this week!
After familiarising themselves with all the laboratory equipment she let them loose (safely!) on the Bunsen burners.
Then they designed an experiment that looked at the reaction of Mentos lollies and Coke, it was lots of fun, albeit a bit messy! Lots of wet and happy children.
Thanks year 3-6s – your enthusiasm for Science is awesome!
Mrs Muir

YEAR 7 -8 DEBATING COMPETITION
Congratulations to Lara Beatson, Bridgette Guy and Tara Woodman for placing Runner Up in the Year 7/8 Debating Competition.
Their journey involved debating against Hawkes Bay, Auckland and South in the Pools round. They continued to win the semi-finals against Northland. For the final, we came up against Auckland again and it was a nail biter! There was only 9 points difference! So close!
Well done Lara, Bridgette and Tara for all your debating skills and for your fantastic collaboration. We are proud of you!

NELSON BOOK FAIR
During week 5 the Nelson Junior School held a Book Fair. Children wrote wish lists and parents and grandparents came in to view, purchase and donate books. A huge number of books have been donated for our library, and many, many books were sold: $3,890 worth in total. We receive 30% of the total, which means we will have $1,166 to spend on new books for our library. Thank you to all those who donated books for the library. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and greatly appreciate your kind donations. Thank you also to all those who came and bought so many books.
On Friday everyone dressed up as a book character. We had a parade followed by prizes for the best costumes. In Year 7-8 first prize went to Lara Beatson as the Queen of Hearts and second place went to Dakari Thomas as Captain Haddock. In Year 4/5/6 first prize went to Ryker Woodman as Willie Wonka while Sequoia Wood took second place as the White Queen from the Narnia series. In the Year 3-4 class Alana Petrie took first prize as Bindi while Connor Thomas came second as Obelix. Winners of the colouring competition were Pearl Wood and Dakari Thomas. Well done to everyone for making such a great effort with costumes. Everyone had their photograph taken in the specially constructed photo booth, and everyone enjoyed a lovely shared morning tea.
The library and courtyard were beautifully decorated, which created a real sense of occasion. The whole effect was absolutely stunning. Thank you to all the parents who contributed to make the Book Fair such a great success.
