We are all getting used to the new normal of wearing masks at school. It is hard to keep this up all day, so we are making the most of the fine, warm weather and getting outside for learning as much as we can.
PLEASE can parents support the school in following this mandate by ensuring students are sent to school with a mask each day.
Over the last two weeks our campus has given away more than five boxes of masks to forgetful students - that’s over 200 masks! It is mandatory to wear masks on the vans, so keeping a mask in the schoolbag will ensure that our students are ready to mask up whenever it’s required.
Congratulations to the following students on their 110% awards.
It was a week late, but well worth the wait as the Nelson Year 3-6 students enjoyed a glorious day of sunshine for their Crossing the Land excursion on Thursday, 17th February.
We walked up Botanical Hill in Nelson to the Centre of New Zealand. At the top everyone enjoyed the fantastic views and tried to identify landmarks they recognised.
On the way up, everyone kept their eyes open for items for the scavenger hunt. Once down the hill, the students walked to Queen’s Gardens for lunch, and a walk around the gardens. It was a good day for nature spotting – monarch butterflies, tui, eels, ducks, geese and ants were among the wildlife we encountered, and there were lots of opportunities to identify the many trees we saw along the way.
After lunch, it was time to enjoy some play at the Tahunanui playground before heading back to school.
Following are some photos of the Upper South Graduation last Friday - thank you to Renee Litchfield for taking these amazing images.

Upper South Campus Athletics - Senior 11th March / Junior 18th March
Athletics Day is just around the corner and we have a few changes.
This year the Athletics Day will take a different format to previous years.
Due to Covid-19 we have restrictions on how we run these types of events.
It is necessary to hold separate events for the Junior and Senior students. Here are general details of each event.
Senior Athletics - Year 7 to 13
When: Friday, 11 March (week 7)
Where: Field events will be held on the Nelson Campus field (no parent spectators). The boys will start at the Field Events.
Track events and Discuss to be held at Saxton Athletics Track. The Girls will start with the Track events.
Who: All Upper South Years 7-13
Event Coordinator: Mr Rogers and Mrs James
Spectators are welcome at the athletic track events but are required to maintain a separate ‘bubble’ from competitors (we are limited to spectators of 100).
We will run two of these groups. One for the morning and one for the afternoon. A registration form will be sent out next week.
It is also a requirement that every adult who is at the athletics track carry their My Vaccine Pass. Please ensure that you have this Pass available for presentation.
There will be no catering offered on the day, therefore students will need to bring their own lunch and water bottles. Transport arrangements will be communicated in the coming week.
Junior Athletics - Year 3 to 6
When: Friday 18th March (week 8)
Where: Saxton Athletics Track, Stoke
Who: Years 3-6
Event Coordinator: Mrs Idle and Mrs Bryant
