Greetings Everybody
It is a huge relief to hear that Mr Rogers is recovering well, please take time to view the video below. He reported that he is getting some exercise and feels a little bit better every day. We all wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back at Nelson Campus soon.
I was at the principal’s meeting in Auckland on Monday and Tuesday of this week. It was a very productive two days, where ideas were exchanged around how to improve the learning centre experience for students, and the expectations around Zoom lessons and canvas courses, amongst other things.
Looking ahead, we have the Upper South Cross Country competition in Westport next Friday 25 June.
School reports will be sent out to parents on Friday 02 July. During the last week of term on 7 and 8 July, whanau teachers will be available for 2/3 way conferences.
Please book your interviews on the school interview site. Details will be sent from head office regarding this.
On the last day of term, July 9, house challenges will be held.
This will include an inter-house debate and master chef challenge. These activities will be site based. More information will come from the student leaders soon.
During the past week I have received NCEA results for the senior students. I am very impressed by these. I wish to congratulate the students on their achievements.
I also want to thank the staff and students from Nelson Campus for the way they are working together to achieve success in the absence of Mr Rogers.
I am looking forward seeing everyone at the cross country in Westport next week.
Mr de Beer

Bronze Awards - Blenheim Campus
The following Blenheim students have received their Bronze Awards:
Zadok Williams, Chad Fisher, Maddox Williams, Wilson Fisher, Archer Faulkner, Dusky Garton, Theo Faulkner, Lily Fisher and Rilla Beatson.
Autumn Art with Mrs Fisher - Blenheim Year 3-6 Class
The Year 3-6 class at Blenheim Campus did some diamante poems about autumn.
Have a look at our creative work!

Building the Strongest Bridge Challenge - Blenheim Year 7/8 Class
Blenheim Year 7 and 8 students were given a challenge to make the strongest bridge.
It is funny how different people approach the same challenge in different ways!
Students were given a list of materials: string, sellotape, blu-tack, straws and paper clips to create their bridges.
Students worked well with their buddy to research different parts and types of bridges and then started designing.

Zatori and Bella’s bridge was successful in holding a mug containing 50 marbles, a 2kg weight and a 4kg weight. Their bridge was sturdy and took on the different weights without a hitch.

Jett and Jovan’s bridge was also successful. It was able to hold a cup of 50 marbles, a 2kg weight and 4kg weight, although it strained a little with the 4kg weight but did not collapse.

Students thoroughly enjoyed this challenge and want to upskill their designs by looking at what worked well and where they could go better next time.
Year 2 Open Day - Blenheim Campus
It was lovely having the Year 2s visit again on Wednesday!
We started the day off with a MAP test, followed by some creative writing in pairs.
For maths, the students worked collaboratively to solve a maths mystery. We witnessed some amazing acting skills during visual language, with a game of charades.
We finished the day off with a game of 'capture the flag' for P.E.
We are looking forward to seeing the Year 2s again next term.

Beep Fitness Test - Nelson Campus
Below is a photo of the seniors Year 11 to 13s participating in the beep fitness test this week.
They, along with the Year 7s who did theirs earlier in the week, gave it a good go and completed the test.
This practice fits in nicely as preparation for cross country on 25 June.
Nelson Year 7-13 House Challenge
It’s the Hungry Hippo game!
Students worked collaboratively as a team to push their “Hippo” out to retrieve a balloon. The Hippo needed to make sure they captured their house-coloured balloon.
A fun event organised by the Year 13s. Well done to the Warriors. It was a spectacular finish!

New Minibeast Discovery! Greymouth Year 3-6 Class
New Minibeast Discovery!
Greymouth Year 3-6 have recently been working as entomologists and have ‘discovered’ never seen before bugs.
The new bugs had to be connected in some way to bugs they had researched during their inquiry into minibeasts.
Can you guess which bug is which and match the name to the description?
Can you guess which minibeast they might be connected to and why?
Toxic Shooter, Eyed Demon, Durantespike, Diamondback, Poisonous Devil, Slugfly, Colour Disaster, Fullmoon Bug, Deadly Catcher, Struth Glider, Snailshell Butterfly, Kipede.
- Which bug can camouflage like a chameleon?
- Which bug has glowers to blind predators?
- Which bug can fly as fast as a race car drives and camouflage in streams?
- Which bug uses its stripes to warn off predators?
- Which bug drops its killer spots?
- Which bug has a poo basket like a pollen basket and lives in the air conditioner?
- Which bug has a blue stripe?
- Which round bug can retract its spikes and wings?
- Which bug has diamonds on its sides for protection?
- Which bug can spread chickenpox and has a flashing abdomen to blind its enemies?
- Which bug is pitch black and has a proboscis on its back?
- Which bug can blend in with the soil and eats worms?
Year 3 - 6 Greymouth Spider Web Making
Below is a short video of the Year 3 - 6 class in Greymouth trying their hand at spider web making!
As everyone worked hard to complete all of their map tests in Week 6, we had the afternoon to complete some fun activities as a school.
First we started with some general knowledge Kahoots, in teams of three.
We then moved on to blind taste testing, where the Year 13s put food on a spoon and fed it to the rest of the students.
Students had to guess what they were given, which included a range of food with some people eating pear, pretzels or some disgusting foods like cold spaghetti and tabasco sauce!
It was a great afternoon that was enjoyed by all ages.
